Broken Bones Club
Not a lot of news to report, due to Christy and I being stuck on the couch for the past month with broken bones. Its quite a story… and for those that know me, It probably won’t come as any surprise.
Last month on my birthday, August 15th, Christy thought she would treat me to a steak dinner down the street at Chez Jay. The weather was nice so we decided to walk. We ate, had a carafe of wine, and headed home to meet up with our friends Matt and Ellen.
After a few Tecates at our apartment, we hopped on our bikes and headed out the door to a party a few miles away. We where a few blocks from the party when we got stopped at a red light, I had kind of rolled into the intersection a little, so I circled around, I was going to pull up next to Christy but I accidentally rode right into her back wheel knocking her off her bike breaking her elbow! Our friend Tim showed up a few minutes later and let me borrow his car to take Christy to the ER. We spent the rest of the night frustrated in Santa Monica ER.
In the mean time, our dog, Mitchel, had gotten into something making him vomit repetitively. He was sick all day Sunday, we decided to take him to the vet Monday. So after taking him to the vet and taking him back home, I was on my way back to work when an SUV pulled out in front of my scooter. I swerved to avoid getting hit and down I went, sliding and spinning down Colorado Blvd. I stopped. I remember thinking I didn’t feel hurt. I started to stand up and my right foot was ‘floppy’, yikes! I laid back down. At this point people where all around me, a few minutes later the ambulance showed up and took me away.
After a few x-rays, the doctor said (almost sadistically) “Oh yeah, that (pointing to a hump poking out my ankle) should be over there (pointing to the other side of my leg)”. They wheeled me into the x-ray room, a nurse set on my leg, a few more assistants held my shoulders, one guy injected a pain medicine into my IV, flushed it and said “does that feel better?” I said “I guess…?” at that same time… *YANK! The doctor tugged my foot back into place, and I screamed…
Christy and I both had to have surgery, we both now of plates and screws holding our bones back in place. We’ve managed to figure out ways of getting things done, I being ‘arms’, christy being ‘legs’, we are quite the team. Johnny Polygon was a huge help when it first happened, also our friends Matt and Ellen have been a big help. We’ve gotten out and watched a few polo games, gone out to eat, and went and saw a movie… but for the most part we have been sitting on our butts watching TV.
Christy’s elbow is doing well, she got her cast off last week, but its still very stiff and needs the support of a sling. My ankle is feeling better, and hopefully I will be in a walking cast by next week and I should be riding again in December.

Dude! Such a crazy story. I feel for you guys! And miss you dearly. Get well soon.
uhhmmm mind clipping those toe nails buddy?
